Abstract |
This study examines the health impact of caring for elderly family members or friends. The study finds that most family caregivers who are otherwise employed experience poorer health and a greater incidence of chronic disease than non-caregivers. Consequently, the health care costs of working family caregivers are 8 percent higher than those of non-caregivers -- a discrepancy that costs U.S. employers an estimated $13.4 billion each year. |
